Poole heads online Renaissance resource | Poole heads online Renaissance resource | ;kpoole;mkray;monicadt;jyates; | 3/17/2023 4:00:00 AM
Kristen Poole, Ned B. Allen Professor of English, is the general editor of Routledge Resources Online - The Renaissance World currently
available to the public, with a full launch schedule for summer 2023.
Poole began working with Routledge in 2017 to create this large-scale
digital platform that includes essays on the global Renaissance from
scholars across the disciplinary spectrum, including UD faculty Meredith K. Ray, Elias Ahuja Professor of Italian; Mónica Domínguez Torres, professor of art history with a joint appointment in Latin American and Iberian studies; and Julian Yates,
H. Fletcher Brown Professor of English, among experts drawn from other
institutions. “‘Renaissance’ is itself a fraught term, as is the very
question of how, or even whether, to divide the past into discrete eras.
Our authors do not hold a monolithic notion of ‘Renaissance’ as a
clearly defined time or movement. This resource invites a fresh take on
the period by emphasizing its movement and intersection—the travel of
people, ideas and objects,” Poole says.
| | Uncropped Vertical | | GP0|#e59b718f-f2f3-4654-8986-5eea60d4f90b;L0|#0e59b718f-f2f3-4654-8986-5eea60d4f90b|Publications;GTSet|#0a3b6244-764a-4413-b2f1-4b4c15da868c | 2023.00000000000 | https://www.cas.udel.edu/Lists/ForTheRecord/DispForm.aspx?ID=293 | |

Oancea speaks at Musée de la Bande Dessinée | Oancea speaks at Musée de la Bande Dessinée | | 10/28/2022 4:00:00 AM
Ana Oancea, assistant professor of French in the Department of
Languages, Literatures and Cultures, gave a presentation entitled “Le
chirurgien artiste? Suzanne Noël et les gueules cassées dans A mains
nues (2020)” at the Musée de la Bande Dessinée in Angoulême, France. In
addition to hosting one of the largest international festivals for
graphic novels, the museum organizes yearly meetings for researchers in
the medium. Oancea’s paper discussed the representation of Suzanne Noël,
early 20th-century plastic surgeon and engaged feminist, in a bande
dessinée written by Leïla Slimani and illustrated by Clément Oubrerie.
She analyzed the narrative and visual techniques the text employs to
construct the protagonist’s medical expertise. She paid particular
attention to the depiction of World War I soldiers with facial injuries.
The paper draws on her research specialization in the intersection of
science and literature in France in the long 19th century.

| | Uncropped Vertical | | GP0|#d586cffd-ad4b-45b9-8581-f6a2bbf70d87;L0|#0d586cffd-ad4b-45b9-8581-f6a2bbf70d87|Presentations;GTSet|#0a3b6244-764a-4413-b2f1-4b4c15da868c | 2022.00000000000 | https://www.cas.udel.edu/Lists/ForTheRecord/DispForm.aspx?ID=247 | |
Schmidt-Cruz publishes new article | Schmidt-Cruz publishes new article | | 10/7/2022 4:00:00 AM
Cynthia Schmidt-Cruz, professor of Spanish and Portuguese, is the author of “The Mom Thriller: Motherhood on the Edge,” published in The Journal of Popular Culture, Vol. 55, No. 4, 2022. The article was published online in
August. It offers a critical approach to the mom thriller, a new
subgenre of domestic noir that has pushed the motherhood theme
into the popular culture arena. The noir aspect — arising from crime,
wrongdoing or a false pretense — generates a myriad of narrative schemes
that explore the performance of motherhood in an atmosphere of high
anxiety. Schmidt-Cruz presented a version of this research
at the Captivating Criminality conference held in Bamberg, Germany, in
July.
| | Uncropped Vertical | | GP0|#e59b718f-f2f3-4654-8986-5eea60d4f90b;L0|#0e59b718f-f2f3-4654-8986-5eea60d4f90b|Publications;GTSet|#0a3b6244-764a-4413-b2f1-4b4c15da868c | 2022.00000000000 | https://www.cas.udel.edu/Lists/ForTheRecord/DispForm.aspx?ID=229 | |

Hutchinson publishes new book | Hutchinson publishes new book | | 4/29/2022 4:00:00 AM
Rachael Hutchinson, professor of Japanese Studies and acting director of the Game Studies program, has a new book, Japanese Role-Playing Games: Genre, Representation, and Liminality in the JRPG,
co-edited with Jérémie Pelletier-Gagnon and just released by Lexington
Books. Contributors from Japan, Europe, North America and Australia
employ a variety of theoretical approaches to analyze popular game
series and individual titles, introducing an English-speaking audience
to Japanese videogame scholarship while also extending postcolonial and
philosophical readings to the Japanese game text. In a three-pronged
approach, the collection uses these analyses to look at genre,
representation and liminality, engaging with a multitude of concepts
including stereotypes, intersectionality and the political and social
effects of JRPGs on players and industry conventions.
| | Uncropped Vertical | | GP0|#e59b718f-f2f3-4654-8986-5eea60d4f90b;L0|#0e59b718f-f2f3-4654-8986-5eea60d4f90b|Publications;GTSet|#0a3b6244-764a-4413-b2f1-4b4c15da868c | 2022.00000000000 | https://www.cas.udel.edu/Lists/ForTheRecord/DispForm.aspx?ID=170 | |
