Delaware Teachers Program ​​

The Delaware Teacher's Program is a unique opportunity for public school teachers to participate in a two-week intensive immersion program abroad, and to earn three graduate credits. Through a grant from the Delaware Department of Education and support form the University of Delaware, teachers can participate for little to no cost aside from airfare.

There are currently two program opportunities: Cáceres Spain​​ and Martinique​.

Cáceres Spain

​June 23 to July 7, 2024​

Delaware teachers are invited to participate in a two-week intensive immersion program in Cáceres, Spain.

Increase your language proficiency, cultural knowledge, and intercultural competence while earning graduate credit in a city declared a World Heritage City by UNESCO.

Network with educators, administrators, and professionals in Spain. Partner with local schools for collaborative projects while broadening your understanding of diverse teaching methodologies and educational systems.

Earn three (3) credits that will count towards an MA, or certificate in Languages, Literatures, Cultures, and Pedagogy.

At the conclusion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Define cultural competence

2. Define the idea of identity in the region

3. Explain the importance of integrating the teaching of culture throughout every unit

4. Enhance critical thinking in the classroom through cultural awareness

5. Develop lessons for teaching culture in the classroom, embedded within current units

The program fee will be between $350 and $500 per participant. It does not include airfare to Madrid (estimated at $1,200) or personal travel and activities outside of the program.​​​

* Tuition for Span 676 (3 cr) is $2,436 but has been generously subsidized by the Delaware Department of Education and the Department of Languages, Literatures & Cultures and is included in the program fee.​

Join other teachers as we traverse the rich tapestry of Cáceres' history that for millennia has welcomed diverse settlers, from Romans to Arabs. The city's ancient quarter proudly preserves Roman walls dating back to 25 BC, a testament to its enduring heritage. Palaces, towers, cathedrals, and open squares make Cáceres one of the most enchanting medieval and Renaissance cities in Europe These architectural wonders have been meticulously preserved, serving as the backdrop for numerous documentaries and feature-length films. You might even recognize these captivating settings from the iconic HBO series, Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon. In recognition of its historical significance, the UNESCO World Heritage Site designation was bestowed upon the city's historical center in 1986, adding to Cáceres' allure as a destination of timeless beauty and cultural richness. June 22 to July 6, 2024

Delaware French teachers are invited to participate in a two-week intensive immersion program in Martinique, the French Caribbean island whose culture reflects a distinctive blend of French and West Indian influences. Increase your language proficiency, cultural knowledge, and intercultural competence while earning graduate credit on the magical island of Martinique in the heart of the West Indies.

Network with educators, administrators, and professionals in Martinique. Partner with local schools for collaborative projects while broadening your understanding of diverse teaching methodologies and educational systems.

Participants will earn three (3) credits that will count towards an MA, or certificate in Languages, Literatures, Cultures, and Pedagogy.
