āDLLC condemns the recent shootings in Atlanta that left eight people, six of them Asian women, dead. We grieve for the victims and their families and denounce all acts of violence and harassment against the Asian and Asian-American community.
As scholars, educators, and students of world languages, literatures, and cultures, we embrace and value diversity, prize tolerance, and stand against racism, misogyny, and xenophobia in any form. We recognize that anti-Asian prejudice is a form of systematic racism that places the health and well-being of members of our community at risk. We support our students, faculty, staff and community engaged in antiracist action, and we will continue to work as a department to seek effective ways to address all forms of bias and racism.
The DLLC Committee on Antiracism, Diversity and Equity is available as a resource to anyone in our community with concerns (contact esankara@udel.edu). Additional resources, support, and allyship are available through the Office of Equity and Inclusion, the UD Antiracism Initiative and the UD Diversity Caucuses.
