To mark the 25th anniversary of the Martinique Winter Session program, Flora Poindexter and the French Faculty invited Dr. Dominique Aurélia to our campus for two lectures on Caribbean women writers:  "Middle Passage Narratives: Flight, Loss and Resistance" and "Maryse Condé et la question de la créolité dans Traversée de la Mangrove." During her visit, Dr. Aurélia also participated in several French classes.

Dr. Aurélia is a professor of Caribbean Literature (English and French), Director of International Relations at the Université des Antilles (Martinique) and has taught UD students in Martinique for many years.

Both lectures were very well attended and were generously sponsored by the following: the Center for Global & Area Studies; the Vice Provost for Diversity; the Alliance Française of Wilmington; and the Departments of English, Women & Gender Studies, Languages, Literatures & Cultures, and Art History.
