On May 2nd, 2019 Dr. Molly Swetnam-Burland (College of William and Mary) presented "After Cleopatra: Egyptomania and the Roman Obsession with Egypt." Dr. Swetnam-Burland, a specialist in Roman material culture and social history, surveyed a range of artifacts to show that the Roman conquest of Egypt in the 1st century BCE encouraged the appropriation of Egyptian motifs to the extent that Roman culture itself was changed. Dr. Swetnam-Burland's illuminating and visually captivating lecture also offered a forum of recognition for our newest Eta Sigma Phi (Classics) Honors Society inductees.
