Mary Donaldson-Evans taught at the University of Delaware from 1969 until her retirement in 2011. Her field of specialization was 19th century French literature. Besides the literature and civilization courses, she most enjoyed teaching courses in phonetics and translation.

At Delaware, she was active at all levels, including serving as Chair of the Departmental Undergraduate and Graduate Studies Committees, Chair of the Commission on the Status of Women, Member of the A & S Promotion and Tenure Committee, etc. In addition to the University of Delaware Press editorial board, she served on several editorial boards for journals in her field.

In her retirement, Mary has prepared a scholarly edition of Maupassant’s Bel-Ami (1885), to be published by Garnier (Paris). She has also had several creative works (short stories, anecdotes and personal essays) published by The New York Times “Metropolitan Diary,” The Lowestoft Chronicle, grandmagazine.com, and Blizzard, the publication of the Army’s Tenth Mountain Division.
