Dean John A. Pelesko welcomes new department chairs

Several new department chairs will begin their positions in the College of Arts and Sciences effective Sept. 1, 2019. They are:

In the Department of History, Alison Parker joins UD from SUNY Brockport. A scholar in African American women’s history, she brings extensive leadership experience to the role.

In the Department of Art History, Sandy Isenstadt has accepted appointment as department chair. A specialist in the history of modern architecture, he has been a long-time leader in material culture studies at UD.

In the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, Tania Roth has accepted appointment as department chair. A behavioral neuroscientist and one of UD’s Mangone Scholars, she brings experience as a graduate director and leader in Building X planning to the chair’s position.

In the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, Meredith Ray has accepted appointment as interim chair. A specialist in medieval and Renaissance Italian literature, she has served as chair of the Italian section within the department.

Within the Dean’s Office, Murray Johnston has accepted a permanent appointment as associate dean for the natural sciences. Senior Associate Dean David Wilson will be taking a well-earned sabbatical during the coming academic year, and Dan Smith of the Biden School of Public Policy and Administration will serve as the acting associate dean for the social sciences from September through May.

Lauren Petersen and Suzanne Burton will be continuing in their roles as interim associate dean for the humanities and for the arts, respectively.
